Academy of Natural Sciences – Science From Home
From the Academy of Natural Sciences. Printable coloring sheets from the academy’s collections, and other hands-on activities that can be done from home.

Audible Stories
From Audible by Amazon. Discover children’s classics, teen picks, and Audible Originals for free. Some audiobooks are narrated by well-known actors and authors, and several are available in different languages, including Spanish and French.

Beanstalk
Watch interactive lesson plans and try out offline crafts and activities. Beanstalk offers videos live and on-demand on all sorts of topics, from art, to exploring the human body, to cooking, and much more! There’s something available for kids of all ages.

BookFlix
Watch videos and read books about family, community, music, adventure, and more. Kids will enjoy read aloud books with words highlighting and interactive games. Some films and books are available in Spanish too!

Caring for Each Other – Sesame Street
From the friends of Sesame Street, the Caring for Each Other campaign provides children with tons of fun videos, games, and coloring pages about staying safe during COVID-19. Parents are also offered tips and ideas on how to keep their kids happy and healthy. New content is added daily, including resources available in Spanish!

Descanso at Home – Virtual Garden Tours and Activities
Explore the Descanso Garden Guild in California. Watch virtual tours of the grounds, including the Ancient Forest and Rose Gardens, print out nature-themed coloring pages, and access journals and habitat guides to help you explore your backyard and neighborhood.

Escape from Wonderland – Digital Escape Room
Inspired by the classic story Alice in Wonderland and its film adaptations, this free online escape room offers a challenge for all ages. Solve the riddles using counting and critical thinking to escape from Wonderland!

Food Assistance for Residents
Food assistance is available to residents in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Schools and organizations across the County are providing grab and go meals to residents in need. An interactive map and more information are provided.

Studio Ghibli Museum Virtual Tour
The Studio Ghibli Museum in Tokyo, Japan is providing virtual tours/staff video journals on YouTube. Each clip is short, but there are plenty of beautiful details to look at, accompanied by calming instrumentals. Check out artwork and buildings inspired by the films created by Studio Ghibli, including popular favorites such as My Neighbor TotoroKiki’s Delivery Service, and Howl’s Moving Castle. (Fun fact: Howl’s Moving Castle was originally a novel written by Diana Wynn Jones in 1986!)

HelpNow – Online Homework Help
From Brainfuse. Get one-on-one online homework help with certified tutors for grades K- college, covering a wide range of topics. Live tutoring 2pm-11pm daily and a 24/7 writing lab, lesson library, language lab, collaboration tools and more!

Kids Listen – Kid-Friendly Podcasts
From the creators of Kids Listen. A comprehensive list of podcast recommendations that educate and entertain families.

Magic Tree House Home Adventures
Mary Pope Osbourne, author of the Magic Tree House series, invites kids and parents to listen to the adventures of Jack and Annie, and to try out various activities, crafts, recipes, and much more! Each week focuses on a different theme found in the Magic Tree House books.

Make a Miniature Book
From The British Library. Did you know that children use to learn how to read by using tiny books to read to their dolls? Take a look at these mini creations from over 200 years ago, then learn how to make your own!

Scholastic Learn at Home
From Scholastic. Explore day-by-day projects, articles, and quizzes to do with your kids based on grade level (PreK – 9). New projects are added weekly on Mondays, and additional resources such as videos and printable activities are constantly provided and updated.

TedEd
From “Think Like a Coder” to “The Myth of Hercules: 12 labors in 8-bits,” TedEd provides live and animated lesson-based videos organized by subject.

TumbleBooks
Animation, sound, music and narration are added to existing picture books, early readers, chapter books, graphic novels and more for children to read at home in a format they’ll love.

Virtual Storytimes (via Delco Libraries)
Give your child some of the experience of storytime while libraries are closed. There are videos of librarians and authors reading their books.

Zoos with Live Shows (via CBS)
You can still “go to the zoo” and show the kids wild animals.  There are zoos all over the country and world with broadcasts.

Library Closed

The Library closed on Friday, March 13th, 2020, as the result of the Township State of Emergency regarding the Coronavirus threat. The Library will remain closed indefinitely.

All checked-out library materials have been renewed until May 22nd.  The library is providing updates, services and programs via our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/astonlibrary .  The staff continue to check voicemail and email ( hello@astonlibrary.org ) and respond.

We are sorry for the inconvenience to our patrons.

March Library News

ASTON LIBRARY NEWS–

Saturday March 21st from 6:00 PM  to  9:00 PM the Friends of the Aston Public Library will present Spring Bingo!  Doors open at 4:30 PM.  Admission is $25.  All prizes will be in cash!  Food and refreshments will be sold as well as bingo supplies.  There will also be special raffles!  All proceeds benefit the library!  There will also be special games, food, and bingo supplies sold. 

“Eyes of the Wild and Wallaby Tales” visits the library Thursday, March 19th at 6:30PM. Mammals from around the world will be featured in this program. Behaviors, habitats, adaptations, survival strategies and  relationships with humans will be introduced. This program focuses on behavior and adaptation using the life stories of each unique animal, their often humorous personality, fun facts, anecdotes and animal eye-views as instruction.

Test-drive the new voting machines that will be used in Delaware County starting this year!  The County will have a voting machine in our library for demonstration on Thursday, March 26th from 10AM to 1PM.
Our free Chair Zumba class meets Tuesdays at 2PM this month.  Chair Zumba is a gentle form of the Zumba exercise program, using a chair for support.  It is accessible to all ages and genders.

Your child could win a prize in our March coloring contest!  Pick up an entry form at the library service desk.

Join the Aston Library Book Club Thursday March 12th at 1:30PM to discuss ” Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine “.  The club meets each month to discuss a book chosen by the group.

Storytime!  Your young child can learn basic literacy skills while having fun!  The Aston Public Library offers story times every week, open to everyone! Join Ms. Debbie for toddler time (ages 2-3) on Tuesdays at 10:30, infant time (up to 24 months) on Wednesdays at 10:30, and preschool time (ages 3-5) on Thursdays at 10:30!
 
The Kids Can Build Club is at the Library on Tuesdays at 4PM  !  Your child can learn to build things using the library’s Lego collection and other materials as well!   All ages are welcome.
 
Need help with an e-book reader, laptop or tablet computer?  Stop by for our drop-in help time on Friday mornings.  10AM is the time for ebook readers.  11AM is the time for laptops and tablets.
 
Join our Mah Jongg group!  Learn to play the American version of Mah Jongg on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm at the Library.  Game pieces are provided.
 
On Friday, March 20th at 11AM, the Movie Group will be viewing and discussing the movie ” Dark Waters “.  There will be a free light lunch provided.

February Library News

ASTON LIBRARY NEWS–

Children’s Singer Peter Moses will be visiting us Thursday February 20th at 6:30PM.  There will be lots of sing-a-longs for the kids to take part in.

Free Chair Yoga classes will be on Tuesdays at 2 through February.  Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga using a chair for support.

Thanks to our Ethel Clark Foundation grant, you can now check out a projector with your library card.  Go to the catalog at www.astonlibrary.org to reserve this item.

January Library News

The Media Film Festival will visit the library on Monday January 13th at 11AM.  They will be showing a “best of” collection of short films shown at their festival over the years.

Thanks to the Ethel Clark Foundation and their Chair Jack Holefelder for their grant boosting this year’s budget!  We were able to keep our children’s area fresh with new items including toys and a new rug, provide new electronics for patrons to borrow, offer new programs and update the tools used by staff thanks to this grant!

Holiday Closings
