Below is a proposed revision to the Wireless Internet policy.
This change will be up for vote at the July 21st 7PM Board of Trustees meeting here at the library. The meeting is open to the public. Public comments may be made by commenting on this post or using the “Contact Us” link on this site.
The purpose of this revision is for the policy to reflect the current technology, and be phrased in a way that may remain applicable as technology changes further going forward.
Wireless Internet Access Agreement
Library patrons/device owners must agree to the following as a condition of access to the Library’s wireless network-
I am responsible for setting up my device to access the Aston Public Library wireless internet service.
Staff cannot troubleshoot my device.
The Library will not assume responsibility for the safety of my equipment or device configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to the Library’s wireless service.
Wireless is not to be used in the Children’s area.
It is strongly recommended that I not transmit personally sensitive information over the wireless network. The Library cannot protect such data from interception.
The library is not responsible for the content of any web sites or of any programs that I or family members may download to my device, or otherwise rely on for information.
Virus and security protection is my responsibility. I certify that I have taken proper steps to ensure my device is free from viruses or malware, including installation of proper, current antivirus software as appropriate.
I certify that I will not access sexually explicit or inappropriate material.
Parents are responsible to monitor their children’s use of the Internet.
Printing from the wireless network is not provided by the Library.
Access may be blocked, suspended or terminated at any time.
Use of the Library’s wireless connection for illegal activities, or attempting to trespass or tamper with the Library’s computer system, will result in prosecution under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act USC 1030. By using the network, I am acknowledging full and sole responsibility for any and all materials accessed through this system.
I waive my right to any claim against the Library, its employees, trustees, officers and agents arising from use of the wireless network.
The Aston Public Library Board of Trustees are considering a policy change to add the following policy to the Library’s Policy Manual-
The Internal Revenue Service standard business mileage rate may be reimbursed when an employee travels on library business in his or her own vehicle. To be reimbursable, travel must be approved by the Director.
The exact mileage traveled must be included in the request for reimbursement.
For travel to and from the home of the employee, the mileage subject to reimbursement is computed by first subtracting the distance between the home and the Library.
For example, if an employee travels from home to a meeting and then to the Library, the Library will reimburse the employee for the total mileage of the trip minus the distance from home to the Library.
This change will be up for vote at the May 19th 7PM Board of Trustees meeting here at the library. The meeting is open to the public. Public comments may be made by commenting on this post or using the “Contact Us” link on this site.
The Aston Public Library Board of Trustees are considering a policy change to remove the following sentence from the Library’s Financial Policy-
“The library accounts shall not be reviewed by the same audit agency/auditor for more than five consecutive years.”
This change will be up for vote at the November 18th 7PM Board of Trustees meeting here at the library. The meeting is open to the public. Public comments may be made by commenting on this post or using the “Contact Us” link on this site.
The purpose of the change would be to ensure the library can pursue the most efficient and economical option for its accounting services.
