Ox-Cart Man program for kids with the Colonial Plantation!

Bring you child to the library on Thursday June 19th at 10:30AM to learn about how they lived in olden times!

Ox-Cart Man: Based on the book by Donald Hall- The Colonial Plantation will present a one-hour  program features a reading of the classic tale, an exploration of the items the Ox-Cart Man sells in town, and hands-on activities. Learn how the weather affects the daily lives of humans, discover why there’s less light in winter, and identify the sources of energy needed for life.

Science in the Summer coming to the library July 7-10 – APPLY NOW!

Glaxo Science in the Summer is coming to the Aston Public Library again this year! The theme this time will be Genetics.  Science in the Summer is a free science education program that helps elementary school children “grow into science.” The program will be July 7-10 with both morning and afternoon options.

Come to the library to apply! The deadline is May 31. Places will be decided by lottery if there are more kids than spots.

There are two age groups: those entering Grades 2 and 3 (Level I) and those entering Grades 4-6 (Level II).

Pals For Reading Returning to Aston Library!

Your child can expand his or her confidence with reading by practicing with a trained therapy dog!  Pals for Life will be visiting the Aston Library again this spring! Reading to animals helps shy children and children having trouble learning to read build confidence in their literacy skills.

These are the dates for the programs:

Wednesday April 30 at 6:30PM
Wednesday May 7 at 6:30PM
Wednesday May 14 at 6:30PM
Wednesday May 21 at 6:30PM

These programs are free, but registration is required. Space is very limited, and children are expected to attend all four sessions. Please register here:

Curling Storytime Pictures

The kids had a good time at last month’s “curling storytime” at Ice Works with author Kim Perkins.  Here are some pictures!

Curling Nationals Storytime at Ice Works!

On Saturday February 22nd at 10AM, The Aston Public Library and Ice Works will present a reading and signing of the book Trefor: The Curling Rock with author Kim Perkins for area children to promote reading and celebrate the U.S. Curling Nationals in Aston. The book is the story of a rock searching for a sport he can play. Activities will also be offered for the children at the event, including the opportunity for each child to color his or her own curling rock for display at the rink!

Ms. Perkins will also be signing copies of her book, and copies of the book will be available for sale.

The program will be held at Ice Works, 3100 Dutton Mill Road in Aston.

Aston Public Library Youth Art Contest!

The Library is holding an Art Contest for youth in grades K-12! Entries in a wide variety of formats will be accepted at the Library until the deadline. Please include the Title of the piece of artwork, and the artist’s Name, Age, Address, Phone Number, School and Grade on the back of the piece.

People in Delaware County are eligible to participate. Just bring your entry to the library’s service desk.

THE RULES:

  1. Only two different entries per person allowed.
  2. Include your name, address, age and phone number with your entry.
  3. Entries must be original.

Deadline:  January 30th, 2014.

All entries become property of the Aston Public Library.

Winners will be put on display in the library!

There is a place for you and your toddler or preschooler at our library!

PreschoolConnections8-13You and your toddler or preschooler are invited to stay, play, read and enjoy in the new kid zone called “Preschool Connections” at the Aston Public  Library!  The Library is now home to toys and games, not just books.  Your child can learn basic literacies and skills while playing and meeting other kids!
