Who Can Do Chair Yoga?

It is also beneficial for most health problems or concerns in any one area of your body, or to gently help your body strengthen and recover from an illness or surgery. Remember to always check with your physician before starting any exercise program.

What is Chair Yoga?
Chair yoga is the term generally used to describe a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting in a chair or standing, using a chair for support.  Chair yoga gives you the benefit of relieving stress and gentle stretching of muscles and joints.  With the use of this type of yoga modification, it helps to make yoga easier if you have physical limitations in balance, flexibility, or strength. Yoga is not about trying to twist your body into a pretzel.  It is meant to gently stretch and bend the muscles and open air flow with the breath. Whether you are doing classical yoga or chair yoga, you will leave class with a calmer state of mind and a more resilient spirit.

Benefits of Chair Yoga

Chair yoga as well as classical yoga is considered safe. Studies have shown that yoga helps people with the symptoms of many health issues including:

  • hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • manage stress, anxiety, clinical depression
  • fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome
  • arthritis
  • insomnia
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • chronic pain
  • poor circulation
  • relieves stress ,tension in neck, shoulders, torso and legs.
  • gain strength, flexibility and balance
  • digestion

Family Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch for Aston Residents!

On Saturday, March 31, Aston Township will hold its annual Community Easter Egg Hunt for all Aston children under age 12 on the athletic field behind the Aston Community Center (our building) on Concord Road. Some of the plastic eggs scattered on the grass will be redeemable for special prizes for different age groups. The free event starts at 10:30 am and happens fast, so don’t be late!

Something new for Egg Hunt families this year will be an hour-long Brunch with the Easter Bunny, which starts at 9am in the Rick Owsley Fieldhouse. Organized by the same volunteers on the Recreation Committee who made the First Annual Winter Fun Festival such a huge success in December, the Easter Brunch will feature a Continental breakfast; the opportunity for parents to photograph their kids with the Easter Bunny; and other children’s activities.

The limit for this special prelude to the Easter Egg Hunt is 200 children (ages 2-12), so pre-registration is required. Call the township office at 610-494-1636 to register.

Happy Easter!
