Pals for Life Coming to Aston Library!
Your child can gain confidence and comfort reading aloud by practicing on trained therapy dogs!
This is a three-part monthly program. Sessions are:
Wednesday– March.10, April.14, May.12 at 6:30 p.m
These programs are free, but registration is required. Space is very limited, and children are expected to attend all three sessions.

The “Van” is still going!
Despite the cuts in library budgets, the delivery service between libraries in the county is still continuing in 2010!
What does this mean? You can request almost any item from any library in Delaware County and have it delivered to the Aston Library for you to pick up here. This is free of charge, except for DVDs.
Here is how you do it:

Go to the catalog (http://charlotte.delco.lib.pa.us/ or just go to one of our catalog stations at the library)

Search up the item you want by title, author, subject, keyword etc.
- If it’s part of a list of results, click on the title to get to the “detailed” view of the item

Click the request button
-
Enter the info requested (Your last name and card number)
-
Select “Aston” as the Pickup Location
-
Hit Submit
-
Wait for the confirmation
-
Contact a staff member (610-494-5877 or just visit us at the Circulation Desk) if there is an error
-
You will receive just 1 (one) phone call when the book arrives. A message will be left. The book will be held for 3 (three) days.
This greatly expands the material you have access to with your library card! There are over 500,000 items to choose from! Wow!
The van is provided by the Delaware County Library System!

Book written by the family of one of our staff!
Alex Saunders, father of Joanne Burns has come out with a new book called “To Our Credit”! This book is an autobiography of Alex Saunders and his brother, Peter. It contains first hand accounts of his life growing up in Hungary during the time of World War II and the German occupation. It tells of the adventures of Alex and his family as they fled German gunfire as well as the emotional impact the war had on his family. The book utilizes both prose and poetry to communicate the imagery of these events.

We finally were able to make another book order! Here are some of the titles we just added to our collection (click on the book cover to see if it’s in or place a hold):
Our book budget is reduced by 53% this year, but we’re still trying to get the best, most interesting materials to add to our collection. Have a suggestion? Young Poets Competition-Enter at the Library!

Young Poets Of Delaware County
Poetry Competition
For all school-age residents of Delaware County, grades 1-12
CONTEST GUIDELINES
Original poems must be typed or neatly written on 8 1/2” by 11” paper; no odd size or construction paper, please.
Student’s name
Address
Home phone number
Grade
School
School District
If information is not listed, entry will be disqualified.
No entries will be returned.
Only one poem per student may be entered.
Poems will be judged by grade level.
Deadline for submissions is FEBRUARY 12, 2010.
Prizes will include saving bonds for first place winners and
publication in a booklet for all 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners.
Winners will be notified.
Please, no calls after poems are submitted!
Entries should be submitted to any public library in Delaware County

Annual Bookmark Contest!
It’s time for the annual bookmark contest again! Children in grades 1 through 8 are eligible to participate. Just create an original bookmark using the form.

THE RULES:
1.Only two different entries per child allowed.
2. You must use black pen on white paper. Do not use colors!
3.Cut out bookmark along the dotted line.
4.Write your name, address, phone, school, grade and library on the back of each bookmark.
5. Entries must be original. Do not use copyrighted cartoon figures. (For example: Garfield) They cannot be accepted. Computer generated art is not considered original artwork.
Deadline: Friday, February 12, 2010
All entries become property of the Aston Public Library.
Entries will be judged at your local library. One winner from each division will be selected. These selections will be entered in a county-wide judging. Winners of the county judging will have their bookmarks printed and distributed in the Public Libraries of Delaware County for National Library Week.
